Environmental and Compliance Policy

1. Our Core Commitment

Amenity IWM Services is committed to promoting sustainable, compliant, and environmentally responsible amenity weed management across the UK. Our purpose is to assist local authorities, contractors, and large site managers in transitioning toward and maintaining robust Integrated Weed Management (IWM) strategies that minimise environmental impact while meeting statutory obligations.

2. Integrated Weed Management (IWM) Focus

Our services are fundamentally based on the principles of IWM, which prioritises non-chemical control methods and the judicious, legal, and targeted use of pesticides only as a last resort.

We commit to:

  • Minimisation: Always recommending strategies that seek to minimise the total volume and frequency of pesticide use.

  • Alternatives: Promoting and assessing the feasibility of non-chemical controls, including manual, cultural, physical, thermal, and biological methods.

  • Prevention: Encouraging proactive cultural controls (e.g., design, maintenance) to prevent weed establishment.

3. Compliance and Legislation Benchmarking

Our audits and plans are explicitly benchmarked against current and pending UK legislation and industry best practice. We maintain continuous awareness of regulatory changes to ensure our advice is up-to-date.

Our core reference standards include, but are not limited to:

  • The UK Pesticide National Action Plan 2025: Providing a framework for the sustainable use of plant protection products.

  • The Highways Act (1980): Specifically sections relating to the maintenance of public highways and verges, where weed control may be relevant to safety and structural integrity.

  • The Food and Environment Protection Act (FEPA) 1985 and The Control of Pesticides Regulations (COPR) 1986.

  • Industry Guidance: Including the Parks for London Integrated Weed Management Reference Guide and guidance published by the Amenity Forum.

  • Environmental Permitting Regulations: Where relevant to specific non-chemical control methods.

4. Policy on Recommendations and Reporting
  • Impartiality: Our Audit Reports offer an objective, fact-based assessment of the Client's operations compared to the stated standards, free from commercial bias toward any specific product or control method.

  • Sustainability Weighted: All recommendations prioritise long-term, sustainable, and compliant solutions over quick fixes.

  • Client Autonomy: While we provide expert recommendations, the ultimate decision and responsibility for the implementation of any IWM strategy rests entirely with the Client.

5. Ethical Business Practice
  • Transparency: We commit to clearly outlining the scope, limitations, and reference standards used in every service engagement.

  • Competence: We ensure all staff and sub-contractors involved in audits and consulting possess the necessary professional qualifications, training, and experience relevant to amenity IWM and associated UK legislation.

  • Confidentiality: All operational data, records, and audit findings pertaining to the Client are handled with strict confidentiality, as detailed in our Terms of Service.

6. Continuous Improvement

Amenity IWM Services commits to continuous improvement of our own business processes and knowledge base by:

  • Regularly reviewing and updating our audit methodologies to align with evolving legal and environmental standards.

  • Investing in professional development and training focused on emerging IWM technologies and non-chemical control methods.

  • Seeking and applying client feedback to enhance the clarity and practical utility of our reports and plans.

7. Environmental Responsibility (Internal Operations)

Where practical, we aim to minimise the environmental footprint of our own operations:

  • Travel: Prioritising virtual meetings and remote consultations where site visits are not essential. When travel is necessary, we seek the most fuel-efficient transport options.

  • Documentation: Minimising paper use by delivering all Audit Reports and IWM Plans digitally.
